Industrial production up 8.3 pc in January

New Delhi, Mar 17 (UNI) The growth of general industrial production, as per the Index of Industrial Production (base year 1993-94=100), was higher at 8.3 per cent in January 2006 compared to 7.5 per cent in January 2005.

The general cumulative industrial growth rate during April-January 2005-06 stood at 8.0 per cent compared to 8.4 per cent during the corresponding period of the last year. The cumulative growth of manufacturing during April-January 2005-06 stood at 9.0 per cent against 9.2 per cent last year.

The three sectors, which comprises the Index - Mining (weightage 10.47 per cent), Electricity (weightage 10.17 per cent) and Manufacturing (79.36 per cent) registered growth rate of 0.2 per cent, 5.8 per cent and 9.2 per cent respectively in January 2006 compared to their respective growth of 2.6 per cent, 2.4 per cent and 8.6 per cent in January 2005, official figures said.
