I-Card for labourers in Unorganised sector

Berhampur, Orissa, Mar 17 (UNI) The Union Government has decided to issue Identity cards to all workers in the unorganised sector to ensure their social security, according to Union Minister of State of Labour and Employment Chandra Sekhar Sahu.

The Union Minister, who visited his Lok Sabha constituency here to celebrate Holi, told newsmen that nearly 93 per cent of the workforces in the country was working in the unorganized sector.

The Centre, he said, would also look into the plights of lakhs of migrant labourers of Ganjam, presently working in Surat in Gujarat.

Mr Sahu said he would personally visit Surat during the first week of April to study the situation of the migrant labourers and attend a review meeting there.

He further said he would visit Orissa every month to review the expenditure of the Central funds under different schemes and submit the progress report to the Prime Minister after reviewing these schemes.
