Holi turns deadly for 29 in UP, over 100 injured

Lucknow, Mar 16 (UNI) The festival of colours Holi turned gory for at least 29 people across Uttar Pradesh who were killed during the last 48 hours in clashes that also resulted in injuries to over 100 others.

Police said here today that two people were killed in the Mainpuri district in Holi related clashes, while another person was killed in similar skirmish in the Gorakhpur district yesterday.

One persons was shot dead and two injured in festival related clash in the Bilaspur area of Rampur district, while another person was killed and one injured in similar clash in Gagha area of Gorakhpur district last night.

Two brothers were reportedly killed by rival group over a clash pertaining to Holi bonfire in Mandiyahu area of Jaunpur district last night.

In another incident a man was shot dead over Holi dipsute in Shivramau area of Kannauj district, while two people were injured seriously in an acid attack in Deoria district last night, police added.

One person was killed and 30 injured in festival related clashes in Agra district, while one person each was killed in Chandaulli and Aurraiya district in festival related firing last night. Another man was beaten to death by rival group in the Diviyapur area of Aurraiya district last night.

At least two persons were also killed in Holi clashes in the state capital, where 30 others were injured in similar incidents.

A report from Ballia said that three army jawans who were on leave, shot dead two cousin brothers and injured seven others in the Sikandarpur area, while a man was beaten to death by two persons in Ramnagar area of Varanasi district.

A group killed the husband of a lady village pradhan in the Moradabad district, while 17 persons were injured in clashes between rival groups in Muzaffarnagar district.

Another man was killed in the Maharajganj district of Eastern UP last night over Holi related dispute, police added.
