Hearing on bail plea of suspended police officer deferred

Mumbai, Mar 17 (UNI) Bombay High Court today deferred to March 20, the hearing on a bail application moved by suspended Joint Commissioner of Police Shridhar Vagal, an accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam.

Justice V M Kanade adjourned the hearing since the arguements on the bail plea remained inconclusive.

Advocate Shekhar Naphade, appearing on behalf of Vagal, told the court that his client was falsely implicated in the case and that the provisions of the MCOCA Act were wrongly applied on him.

He also told the court that the accused has already been chargesheeted by the CBI and is languishing in jail for a long time.

His custody is not required by CBI for further interrogation and, therefore, he should be released on bail.

Vagal was earlier granted interim bail by special MCOCA court in Pune for undergoing a medical treatment. He was later taken into custody after the expiry of his interim bail expired.

Vagal, who is booked under the stringent act, had allegedly helped Telgi while he was in the custody of the Crime Branch CID, Mumbai. He is also being charged with providing five-star facilities to Telgi to run the syndicate.
