Haryana to add 4,000 MW capacity in 11th Plan

Chandigarh, Mar 17 (UNI) With a total outlay of Rs 2,104.93 crore for the power sector in the state's budget for 2006-07, Haryana finance minister Birender Singh today said the government has resolved to add over 4,000 megawatt (MW) of generation capacity during the 11th Five Year Plan through private participation.

Presenting the budgetary proposals for the ensuing fiscal in the Vidhan Sabha, the finance minister said the 600 MW Yamunanagar Thermal Power Project was expected to be commissioned by March 2008.

In addition, he said, arrangements are being made to facilitate the generation of 1,065 MW at Faridabad, 1,080 MW each at Hisar and Jhajjar and 1000 MW at Panipat, preferably through gas-based plants.

He said steps were also being taken to set up 1000 MW coal-based plants at Hisar and Faridabad.

''In the next two years, 63 new sub-stations, would be constructed and 58 existing sub-stations would be augmented while 109 km of transmission lines would be laid with an investment of Rs 700 crore,'' he added.

Similarly, the power utilities have planned for an investment of Rs 1,000 crore in transmission and distribution network in the next two years in order to provide quality power to consumers, he said.

Moreover, he said, Haryana has submitted proposals worth Rs 252 crore to the Union government under the 'Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana' for the expansion and improvement of power infrastructure in the rural areas of the state.

The state government has been able to provide 25 per cent more canal water during Kharif in 2005 and 59 per cent more in the Rabi season as compared to the corresponding periods in the previous year, An allocation of Rs 1059,043 has been maele for irrigation and drainge work in the next fiscal, the minister said.
