Haryana Government to procure wheat from April 1 to May 31

Chandigarh, Mar 17 (UNI) Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said that Haryana Government has arranged a sum of Rs 1837 crore for the payment of wheat to the farmers during the current Rabi season, while it has fixed a target of procurement of 42 lakh MT.

Presiding over the meeting of the District Food and Supplies Controllers (DFSCs) here today, he directed them to ensure all facilities be provided to the farmers during the purchase of their wheat.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that efforts should be made to achieve the target of procuring of wheat so that maximum wheat could be given for the central pool.

Directing the officials to ensure payment to the farmers within 48 to 72 hours, he said that for this purpose, sufficient cash credit limit had been arranged from Reserve Bank of India.

Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary of Food and Supplies Department Naresh Gulati said that the six Government agencies had procured 23.53 lakh MT of paddy. He said that the Government had delivered 13.10 lakh MT of rice to the central pool by February 28, which was the 84 per cent of the target.

He said that the purchase of wheat would be started from April and would continue till May 31. The purchase of wheat would be made at the minimum support price of Rs 650 per quintal.
