Filing of nomination for first phase Asom Assy poll ends today

Guwahati, Mar 17 (UNI) Filing of nominations for the first phase of Asom Assembly elections on April three ended today.

Talking to reporters here, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) J P Prakash said the poll observers had already arrived the state and reported at their respective polling stations.

He said the exact number of nominations filed would be made available later in the evening.

He said a comprehensive training programme on functioning of electronic voting machines and other poll-related activities would be conducted for political parties and candidates separately.

The CEO said details regarding the list of various types of identification documents, which would have to be produced at the polling booths, would be published tomorrow.

All booths had been instructed to instal ramps for handicapped, and special privilege would be provided to old, sick and women, he added.

Facilities had been made for postal ballot, he said.

Mr Prakash said the security forces for the polling process would start arriving from March 21.
