EPIC to new voters from Apr 10

Coimbatore, Mar 17 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Election Officer (CEO) Naresh Gupta today informed the process of the issuing photo identity cards (EPIC) to newly-enrolled voters will begin on April ten.

Speaking after a review meeting with West Zone District Collectors, Mr Gupta said the meeting discussed speeding up issue of EPICs, prepartion for elections and implementation of model of conduct.

Voters whose names were missing in the final list though present in the draft rolls, will be given an opportunity to have their names included.

Answering a question, Mr Gupta said district collectors were given powers to transfer tashildars in the Revenue Department as per Election Commission instructions.

He also said the deadline for issue of EPIC has been extended to April 15 to achieve the target of covering 95 per cent voters.
