EC initiates steps to remove cut-outs

Chennai, Mar 17 (UNI) Strictly enforcing the Model Code of Conduct, the Election Commission today initiated steps to remove cut-outs and banners erected by political parties at public places across Tamil Nadu.

The expenditure incurred would be added to the account of election expenses of the candidates put up by the political parties, EC sources said.

Despite an ultimatum served by the EC to all political parties to remove the cut-outs and banners before March 10 in keeping with the Model Code, the publicity materials remained in place at several districts.

Following the expiry of the deadline, District Election Officers today swung into action to remove the banners and cut-outs. The officials also removed political parties' election graffiti across the state.

The EC had stipulated that no wall writing, pasting of posters or defacement of any form was permissible on any private property even with the consent of the owner.
