Cong hails President's decision on Jaya Bachchan
Lucknow, Mar 17 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Salman Khurshid today welcomed the President A P J Abdul Kalam's decision to disqualify Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan, saying it would set to rest the controversy over a member of parliament holding an office of profit.
''Everyone should accept the President's decision on the Jaya Bachchan issue sportingly and it should not be made a political issue,'' he told mediapersons here.
Mr Khurshid said it was an individual issue and all political parties should take a lesson from it.
Meanwhile, petitioner Madan Mohan Shukla, who had filed the case against Ms Jaya Bachchan for holding post of profit, claimed that his stand had been vindicated.
''I honour the Election Commission and President's verdict on the issue,'' he told mediapersons here.
Mr Shukla filed the case in the high court after his nomination papers were rejected in June 2004 for the Rajya Sabha polls in which Ms Bachchan got elected. Later on the directive of the court, he submitted a separate petition with the EC.
