City court sentences a man to life imprisonment for murder

New Delhi, Mar 17 (UNI) A city court has sentenced a 35 year-old-man to life imprisonment for brutally murdering his associate in Ambedkar Nagar in South Delhi three years ago.

Paatiala House Court Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) S K Kaushik yesterday held Lalit Kumar guilty of murdering Shyamvir and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The court further slapped a fine of Rs 1000 on Lalit.

On February 26, 2003, the deceased Shyamvir was with his mother Ramawati and uncle Vir Singh, when Lalit came at about 2200 hours and took him outside on some pretext. There was an scuffle between the two,during which Lalit stabbed Shyamvir in the back and fled from the spot. Shyamvir was declared brought dead in the AIIMS hospital.

''The convict intentionally caused death of Shyamvir,'' the judge said, according to the prosecution. Lalit was convicted under section 302 (Murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
