Chaturvedi files nomination papers from Uttaranchal
Dehradun, Mar 17 (UNI) Congress candidate Satyavrat Chaturvedi today filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha seat from Uttaranchal.
Two candiates have so far filed their nomination from Uttaranchal, the other being Bahujan Samaj Party's R K Verma. No candidate from the main opposition party BJP has filed papers for the seat. Today is the last day of filing nominations.
Despite local Congressmen's disapproval of Mr Chaturvedi's nomination, many were present to welcome him. Mr Chaturvedi now faces the task of placating those party workers who had been keen on have a local man contesting this time.
Mr Chaturvedi told UNI after his arrival in Dehradun that it was but natural for party workers to seek a local leader.
''But the decision of the high command is ultimate and every body has to respect it,'' he said, adding he would try his best to remove their annoyance by serving Uttaranchal.
Later, speaking to mediaperson after filing his nomination papers at the Vidhan Sabha, Mr Chaturvedi said he was previously attached to Uttaranchal culturally and spiritually. '' But now the High Command has given me an opportunity to have economical and political ties with the state,'' he added.
