BJP betrayed Hindus: Singhal

Coimbatore, Mar 17 (UNI) Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) International President Ashok Singhal today accused the Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) of betraying the Hindu community during its five-year term of office in the country.

Talking to newspersons here today, Mr Singhal, who was on way to attend the two-day Hindu resurgence state conference scheduled to begin at Erode, said Hindus will not support BJP Leader L K Advani's proposed Rath Yatra as his government had not done anything to them.

He said the BJP should first introduce a ban on conversion and cow slaughter and a law for common civil code in five BJP-ruled states to gain the confidence of the Hindu community.

To a question, he said the BJP had been invited to the Erode meet as it was not a political conference. Political parties supporting the Hindu agenda will be given support by the VHP in the forthcoming Assembly elections in the State, he asserted.

Mr Singhal said sadhus belonging to the VHP had decided to hit the streets to create awareness on conversions in the country.

He said it was unfortunate that no political party had come out to stop conversions when the peace loving Hindu community never went around converting the other community people.

The VHP leader claimed that the grama poojaries (village priests) were preventing conversions in the South. The Parishad will also exert pressure on the Government to remove Hindu temples from government control, he added.
