Australia's Miatke wins 50m butterfly
MELBOURNE, Mar 17 (Reuters) Danni Miatke led an Australian sweep of the medals in the women's 50 metres butterfly at the Commonwealth Games today.
Miatke got her hands on the wall first in a time of 26.43 seconds to add the Commonwealth title to the world title she won in Montreal last year.
Jessicah Schipper, the world champion for 100m butterfly, finished strongly to grab the silver in 26.65 while a third Australian, Alice Mills, dead-heated with South Africa's Lize-Mari Retief in 26.78.
Miatke, 18, left her family in Darwin four years ago to move to Melbourne in the hope of carving out a career as a professional swimmer and is now an established member of the powerful Australian team.
Australia also completed a sweep of the medals in the women's 200m individual medley on Thursday while Libby Lenton won silver in the 200m freestyle.
