AP to introduce de-watering of fish ponds

Hyderabad, Mar 17 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today announced that de-watering system would be adopted in the fish ponds of the state.

De-watering system is in practice in Thailand and other Asian countries where high discharge and harvest pumps are used for quick harvest, completing the operations in an area of one hectare in two to four hours.

The Chief Minister, who is also the Chairman of the working group on Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fisheries said Fisheries is a high money yielding sector.

He welcomed the suggestions from the President of West Godavari Prawn Farmers Welfare Association and member of the working group Mr I Prasad Rama Mohan Raju he said Specific pathogenic free and SPF resistant brood stock development programmes should be regularly conducted and Hatcheries should be modernised with latest technologies.

The Chief Minister said the State Government has decided to make a comprehensive insurance policy covering the sheep population in the state from April 1, 2006.
