All India Minorities Front appeals to release Sarabjit

New Delhi, Mar 17: The All India Minorities Front today (Mar 17, 2006) appealed to Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf to release Sarabjit Singh, who is facing death sentence in the neighbouring country.

In a demonstration here, the front also urged the Centre to bring the amendment Bill in Parliament to restore the minority character of the Aligarh Muslim University.

Addressing the demonstrators outside masjid Bhoori-Bhatiyari after the Friday prayers, Mr Naseeruddin Shah, president of the International Front against Terrorism and Drug abuse, said,''Mr Sarabjit Singh is innocent and we appeal to Gen Pervez Musharraf, President of Pakistan, to pardon him on purely humanitarian grounds.'' Speaking on the occasion, the general secretary of the AIMF, Mohd Younus Siddiqui, appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to bring the amendment Bill in Parliament for providing minority character to AMU, respecting the sentiments of the largest minority community in India.

Several prominent Muslim leaders also addressed the demonstrators.
