1,000 wrestlers to take part in national Championships at Nidani
Chandigarh, Mar 17 (UNI) More than 1,000 wrestlers and technical officials will take part in the 52nd Senior (men) and 26th Cadet (boys) National Wrestling Championships (Greco-Roman and Freestyle) to be held at Ch Bharat Singh Memorial Sports School, Nidani, in Jind District from March 31 to April 3.
The Senior Nationals would be conducted from March 31 to April 2 and the Junior Cadet Nationals from April 1 to 3.
Announcing this here today, Wrestling Federation of India president M S Malik said Olympians, including Palwinder Singh Cheema, Kripa Shankar, Yogeshsar Dutt, Sushil Kumar, Ramesh, Jagdish, Kaliraman and Arjuna awardees Anuj Chudhary, Ramesh, Shokendar Tomer, Mukesh Khatri, Ravinder, Gurvinder and Anil Mann would be the star attractions.
Mr Malik said 27 affiliated units of the WFI, including sports boards had confirmed their participation in the Nationals.
Haryana Finance Minister Varinder Singh will inaugurate the Senior Nationals on March 31 while Member of Parliament Jaiprakash will preside over the function.
Haryana Olympic Association president Abhey Chautala will be the chief guest on the opening ceremony of the 26th Cadet (Boys) Junior Nationals on April 1 while Malik will preside over the function.
Ajay Chautala will distribute the prizes while Chairman Minority Commission Tarlochan Singh will preside over the closing ceremony.
According to Mr Malik, who is also Director General of Police, Haryana, the medical checkup for seniors and juniors will be conducted on March 31 and April 1 respectively. Entries for the seniors would be entertained up to March 31 and for the Juniors up to April 1.
Nidani, situated at a distance of 13.5 km from district Headquarters (Jind) would be playing hosts for the fifth time in a row.
Mr Malik disclosed that the recently constructed multipurpose hall, at a cost of 1.60 crore, was ready for utilisation of sports activities.
