Varsity lathicharge:Govt concedes Opposition demand
Hyderabad, Mar 16 (UNI) Conceding the oppositions demand, the Andhra Pradesh Government today suspended two police officers and ordered a probe into the alleged lathicharge by police during Holi celebrations in the Osmania University campus yesterday after the opposition stalled proceedings, leading to abrupt adjournment of the House for the day.
Earlier in the day, the House was adjourned twice as the opposition plunged the House into pandemonium, making conduct of regular business impossible.
Home Minister K Jana Reddy, talking to reporters in the Assembly lobby, announced an inquiry and suspension of Circle Inspector L T Chandrasekhar and Sub-inspector Ratnam.
He objected to the Opposition allegedly trying to gain political mileage from the issue.
Tension prevailed in the campus, where different students' unions called for a bandh. Students of Arts, Science and Engineering colleges affiliated to the University boycotted classes in protest against police forcibly stopping the ''Kolatam'' by members of the Telangana Writers Forum in the University campus.
Soon after the House was adjourned for the day, the TRS activists led by its floor leader in the Assembly G Vijaya Rama Rao rushed to the campus and resorted to a road blockade.
