Three killed, five injured as striking employees clash

Mumbai, Mar 16 (UNI) Three persons were killed and five others, including two police personnel, were injured in a clash between striking workers at Ghansoli in Navi Mumbai, about 40 kilometres from here, today.

Navi Mumbai Police Control room sources said this evening that employees of Standard Alkali were on strike in support of their demands. There was a scuffle this morning between two groups who pelted stones at each other and also at the police personnel deployed there.

Police opened fire to disperse the feuding groups. Three persons were killed in the melee, out of which two deaths were due to the police firing, the sources added.

However, no arrests had yet been made. A large police contingent has been deployed around the incident site, the police said.
