Shinde, Patel, Chavan file nominations for RS

Mumbai, Mar 16: Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde (Congress), Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel and Mr Vasant Chavan (both NCP) filed their nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections today.

Mr Patel and Mr Chavan are outgoing members of the Upper House who have been renominated. Mr Shinde, a former Andhra Pradesh governor, is seeking a Rajya Sabha seat after taking over as the Energy Minister.

So far, four candidates have filed their nomination papers for the six Rajya Sabha seats from Maharashtra. Former Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi had already filed his nomination papers as a Shiv Sena candidate. Tomorrow is the last day for filing of nominations.

The BJP had announced the renomination of Mr Bal Apte but he is yet to file his nominations. The Congress is also yet to announce its other candidate.
