Sensex gains 30 points in range bound trading

Mumbai, Mar 16: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) traded with a gain of 30 points at 10,832 as compared to the last close of 10,801 points.

The 30 share Sensex earlier in the morning opened with a huge gain of 58 points at 10,859 over its last close of 10,801 points and touched a high of 10,889 and a low of 10,830 in the trading so far.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty Index opened flat at 3,197 as compared to the last close of 3,195 points. The 50 share Nifty index traded with a gain of 19 points at 1314 hrs.

With the Japanese market index Nikkei closing 1.25 per cent lower and US market indices Dow Jones, Nasdaq and NYSE closing in the green, the Indian markets were in a tight spot.

Maximum gains were seen in the BSE sectoral indices of Oil&Gas, Metal, and Automobile.

The sectoral indices of the BSE under pressure Health Care, FMCG, Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) and Capital Goods were in the green but for the FMCG index, which traded down by 0.4 per cent, as index heavy weights Hindustan Lever and ITC were trailing.

Reliance Industries was trading at an all time high of Rs 759 with a gain of 2.30 per cent.

The top gainers on the 30 share Sensex at 1045 hrs were Tata Power, Tata Motors, Reliance, Satyam Computers, HDFC, Gujarat Ambuja Cements, TCS, Reliance Energy, HDFC Bank, and Maruti Udyog.

The top losers were ITC, Ranbaxy, Wipro, Hindustan Lever, Dr Reddy's Lab, ICICI Bank, Infosys, NTPC, BHEL and Larsen&Toubro.

Indo-Tech Transformers made its debut on the stock markets today listing at Rs 135 per share on the NSE as against the issue price of Rs 130 for Rs 10 share.

The scrip touched a high of Rs 216 per share in the first hour of trade. It was trading at Rs 211 around 1330 hrs.
