Section of Cochin Port workers go on lightning strike
Kochi, Mar 16 (UNI) Operations at the Cochin Port were partially affected today as a section of the workers went on a lightning strike in protest against yesterday's suspension of five workers by the Port authorities.
According to sources, two passenger vessels from Lakshadweep were waiting till this evening to be berthed because of the strike, launched by the Cochin Port Staff Association (CPSA), which is among the largest of the 11 unions operating in the port.
A Cochin Port Trust (CPT) spokesperson said there was ''some delay'' in the operations at the port.
A high-level meeting, convened by CPT chairman Ramachandran, was held this evening to review the situation.
Slogan-shouting CPSA members sat on a dharna near the port premises, demanding revocation of the suspension orders. The CPSA members were suspended as they were indulging in union activities during office hours and inside the office premises.
