Rupee opens nine paise stronger at 44.38/40 per USD

Mumbai, Mar 16: The rupee today (Mar 16, 2006) opened around nine paise stronger at 44.38/40 per US dollar as compared to the last close of 44.47/48, said a foreign exchange (forex) dealer here.

A weaker yen helped rupee move up and the euro went up too versus US dollar, added the dealer. The rupee was trading at 44.40/41 per US dollar at 1115 hrs, he said.

The rise in the crude prices however was likely to impact on the rupee later in the day. The crude prices in the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) traded above USD 62 per barrel.
