Rs Five lakh compensation given to five Varanasi blast hit familes

Varanasi, Mar 16 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government today handed over cheques of Rs five lakh each to the next of the kin of five of those killed in the March seven twin blasts in this holy city.

The cheques were handed over to the family of Shivangi, Prabhakar Dwivedi, Harish Bijlani, Manohar Lal Bhalotia and Manmohan Viswakarma -- all residents of Varanasi -- killed in the blasts at Sankat Mochan temple and Varanasi railway station within a span of 15 minutes on Tuesday.

The cheques were handed over by Chairman of state Cow Commission K P Yadav.

Meanwhile, a cheque of Rs five lakh could not be handed over to the family of the sixth deceased from the city, Lal Chand Bharti, as the government team failed to find any of his successors in the Lehertara area.

At least 17 people were killed and over 100 wounded in the twin blasts. The state government had announced a compensation of Rs five lakh for those killed, Rs one lakh for those with major injuries and Rs 50,000 to those with minor injuries.
