Record 11,049 cases settled in Lok Adalat in a day
Jabalpur, Mar 16 (UNI) A judicial record has been created in Madhya Pradesh with the disposal of 11,049 pending cases in a single day by a lok adalat organised at the district court premises here.
Organised by the Madhya Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (MPSLSA) on March 12, the lok adalat -- divided into 42 benches -- took up more than 16,000 cases for settlement through mutual negotiations among the litigants.
The cases settled include 4,077 revenue, 104 cooperative bank-related, 3,565 cases under different sections of the IPC, 151 cases of motor accidents insurance claims, 393 cases of cheque bounce, 65 of Electricity Act and 12 family disputes besides more than 6,000 cases related to minor offences.
Motor accidents insurance claims worth Rs 1.66 crore and cheque bounce disputes worth Rs 1.41 crore were settled.
According to MPSLSA Chairman Justice Deepak Mishra, more than 1.16 lakh cases had been disposed of during past 11 months in Lok Adalats organised in various districts.
A lok adalat organised in Gwalior on March 5 had settled 10,437 cases, while 6,884 cases were disposed of in a lok adalat in Rewa in December last year.
