Rains, hailstorm in MP
Bhopal, Mar 16: Unseasonal rainfall and hailstorm again lashed several parts of Madhya Pradesh today.
Meteorological department director D P Dubey told UNI here that low-pressure area has developed over the central part of state due to western disturbances, causing the rain and hailstorm.
A trough created near the low-pressure area was moving towards Tamil Nadu via Mahrashtra.
Dr Dubey forecast rains along with hails and strong winds in various parts of the state during next 24 hours.
Hails and downpours lashed some parts of Gwalior, Chambal and Sagar divisions during the past 48 hours. Besides, crops suffered damages in some villages in Shivpuri due to rains and hailstorm overnight.
The state capital and Guna received rains and hail this morning.
Unseasonal rainfall and hailstorm had damaged crops in 2.5 lakh hectare area during early part of the month. More than 70 persons and 300 cattle heads were killed in rain-related incidents.
The state government has demanded Rs 1,000 crore from the Centre to deal with the natural calamity.
