Proposal to increase power tariff discussed in cabinet
Mumbai, Mar 16 (UNI) The Maharashtra cabinet today discussed a proposal to increase the power tariff in its meeting at the Vidhan Bhavan here this evening.
The proposal, if implemented, will bring in a revenue of about Rs 1,200 crore to the Government.
Cooperation Minister Patangrao Kadam and Revenue Minister Narayan Narayan Rane, however, opposed the proposal saying that it would lead to adverse reaction among the people, especially in the rural areas, which are reeling under the impact of massive load shedding.
The proposal was moved by Energy Minister Dilip Walse Patil and supported by Finance Minister Jayant Patil.
The discussion on the issue was postponed to the next cabinet meeting, the sources said.
