Private bus operators go on strike in Goa
Panaji, Mar 16 (UNI) All 200 private buses went off the roads in Goa today demanding an increase in fares with immediate effect, The one-day strike by the All Goa Private Bus Owners Association affected the commuters although the State-owned Kadamba Transport Corporation had pressed into service its additional fleet to cope with the rush.
Transport Minister Pandurang Madkaikar is scheduled to meet the private operators on March 20 to sort out their problems including fare revision demand.
The Minister is unhappy with operators who are not willing to allow 50 per cent concession in fares to the students. The operators have also been accused of persisting with overloading despite an assurance from them in the past not to do so.
