Police execute pending arrest warrants following EC order

Barrackpore, Mar 16 (UNI) Complying with the Election Commission's orders, police in North 24 Parganas executed pending arrest warrants taking 121 accused into custody, Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar said today.

Besides, police rounded up as many as 280 anti-socials involved in gambling and illicit liquor trading while arresting 39 people in specific cases from Barasat, Rajarhat, Bongaon, Sandeshkhali, Ashoknagar, Beejpur, Naihati, Ghola and Bidhan Nagar(East) police station areas.

Some illegal firearms, ammunition and ten bombs were seized during the night-long special raids in different areas of the district, Mr Kumar said.

However, police were yet to book the criminals involved in three murder cases in Bidhannagar and Khardah so far where a doctor and two others were killed during the past five days. While a Bidhan Nagar doctor was kidnapped and killed last week, police recovered the body of a woman from Bidhannagar roadside and another from a well of Bandipur village under Khardah police station yesterday.

Meanwhile, a youth was seriously injured in a clash between two groups of anti-socials near Laxmi Ghat under Khardah police station in which miscreants fought with bombs. Police rushed to the area to control the post Holi situation in the industrial area. The injured was admitted to the local state general hospital.
