Painting exhibition by quake orphans in Srinagar
Srinagar, Mar 16 (UNI) A three-day painting exhibition by the trauma victims of the devastating earthquake of October 8 last year and the inpatients of the Government Hospital for Psychiatric Diseases concluded here today.
The exhibition was orgainsed by Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF - doctors without borders) in collaboration with the Kashmir University here.
Some of the paintings were created by quake orphans between 10 to 16 years of age.
The exhibition enabled the people to get an insight in trauma, its manifestations and ways of coping.
The MSF also organised an open seminar to raise awareness on mental health issues and to know more about stress and how it affects one's life.
The exhibition was visited by about 1000 people.
MSF, a private, medical and humanitarian organisation, which works in many countries for populations in distress and victims of natural disaster and armed conflict, is running an integrated basic healthcare programe in Srinagar, Budgam and Kuwpwara areas of the Kashmir valley where it offers counselling and psycho-education to aware the people about psychosocial and mental health issues.
