One more peacock found dead in KU campus

Kurukshetra, Mar 16 (UNI) One more peacock was found dead in Kurukshetra University campus on the day of Holi festival, wilife officials today said.

The peacock, which had its neck twisted and one leg missing, was without its feathers.

The Wild Life Warden and Deputy Conservator of Forests, (Kurukshetra) Vinit Garg immediately rushed with a team from the Wild Life office at the Pipli Mini Zoo to take possession of the carcass.

Mr Garg said that in view of the killer bird flu disease, the carcass has been sent to the National Bird Laboratory, Jalandhar to ascertain the cause of the death.

The Haryana government has ordered that all birds, that died unnatural deaths, must be sent to Jalandhar laboratory for post mortem.

A few days back, some peacocks were found dead in the University campus. The carcasses with only one leg, necks twisted and some pieces of flesh, were found in the dustbins.

Last year too, some poachers gunned down peacocks but fled when chased by the staff of the nearby university nursery.
