NHRC issues notice to Rajasthan Govt on atrocities

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today issued notices to the Rajasthan Government and police and sought a report within four weeks about the alleged atrocities on Christians in the state.

The Commission said it had received several complaints, including one from New Delhi-based Emmanuel Children Home Principal Administrator C J Babu, about the alleged atrocities on Christians in the state.

It also received a complaint which alleged that Kota's Emmanuel Mission head Samuel Thomas was ''forcibly picked'' up by five to six people form the residence of a senior advocate in Noida today.

The complaint alleged that they did not furnish any documents or information about themselves.

''One person who claimed to be the SHO of Bhim Ganj Mandi in Kota pushed Dr Thomas in a car and refused to observe necessary formalities at the time,'' it added.

The petitioner apprehended a threat to Dr Thomas' life and sought the Commission's intervention to ensure his safety.

The Commission directed the Rajasthan DGP to ensure safety and well being of Dr Thomas and inform it about the place where he has been taken.
