Nearly 1400 Indians to be deported from Oman

Dubai, Mar 16: About 1,400 Indian expatriates on expired visas in Oman will soon come back to India without facing any fines or legal problems.

A spokesman of an Indian Welfare Organisation (IRO) said this benevolent gesture, despite loss of revenues in terms of collection of penalties, comes after an earlier batch of illegal residents were allowed to leave the country under a scheme announced by the Oman government.

Now close to 6,000 names are registered in the new list, of which, nearly 1,400 names have been approved by the authorities for deportation, Times of Oman reported.

Within two weeks, the first batch of men on expired visas on the list would be heading home, the spokesman of IRO said.

Preference is given to those who are ill and facing personal emergency, he added.
