Hubli, Mar 16 (UNI) Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Minister Govind Karjol, whose relative died at the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) here seven years ago for want of a ventilator, has sanctioned the Rs eight lakh worth equipment needed for artificial breathing.

The Minister, who visited the hospital yesterday, recalled the incident of his 16-year-old relative breathing his last in the ICU for want of ventilator, and enquired the KIMS Medical Director about the requirement of the equipment.

When the Director said the Institute needed four ventilators, Mr Karjol sanctioned one using his discretionary powers despite the Health department not falling under his purview.
