Man climbs Howrah bridge, rescued successfully
Kolkata, Mar 16 (UNI) A middle aged man, who climbed atop the Howrah bridge and threatened to jump into the Ganges, was successfully rescued by the fire brigade personnel today after about three hours drama of "life and death".
Police said the man, whose identity was not immediately known, is suspected to be mentally disturbed.
Fire fighters deployed a huge crane to reach atop the bridge and brought down the man successfully.
Thousands of onlookers gathered around the bridge to see the rescue operation carried out by the firemen and local police.
Vehicular movement was also temporarily suspended.
The man has been detained for investigation.
