K'taka Legislative Council congratulates Kumble

Bangalore, Mar 16 (UNI) The Karnataka Legislative Council today congratulated ace leggie Anil Kumble for becoming the first Indian to claim 500 wickets in Test cricket.

Dr M P Nadagouda, moving a motion to congratulate him, said it was a big achievement which deserved appropriate recognition.

When the Leader of the Opposition H K Patil said the state government should come up with a concrete plan to keep alive Kumble's achievement, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Alkod Hanumanthappa gave an assurance to this effect.

Showering praise on Kumble, Floor Leader D H Shankaramurthy pointed out that he was also the second player in the world to have claimed ten wickets in an innings and suggested that Kumble could be made captain at least in one-day cricket.

He also made a mention of weightlifter Kunjarani Devi who won a gold medal today at the Commonwealth Games being held at Melbourne.
