Kerala HC orders CBI probe into Beypore explosion

Kochi, Mar 16 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today ordered a CBI probe into the explosion at Beypore port on September 17 last year.

Allowing a petition filed by K Vasudevan, a resident of North Beypore seeking a CBI probe into the incident, Mr Justice K Padmanabhan Nair said it was necessary to find out whether the explosion was triggered by any terrorists or fundamentalists and whether any internal agency had any role in the incident.

He said the CBI could seek the assistance of other central agencies like the Intelligence Bureau, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and also the Coast Guard.

''If the CBI was of the opinion that for a more effective investigation, a special team consisting of CBI, Intelligence Bureau and DRI, was to be constituted, it should approach the competent authority or this court for necessary orders,'' Mr Nair said.

The court also directed the State Additional DIG (Intelligence) to furnish all documents it had collected in connection with the incident to the CBI.

The CBI could also use scientific methods during the investigation, the court said and directed the forensic laboratory to give priority if CBI approached it for polygraph, brain mapping or narco-analysis tests of the suspects.
