'Kalam, more a democrat than scientist'

Bangalore, Mar 16 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council H K Patil today described President A P J Abdul Kalam as more of a democrat than a scientist.

Taking part in a discussion initiated by floor leader D H Shankaramurthy on the President's address to the joint session of the Legislature on November 20 last year, he said the fact that the President had allowed a discussion on his address, instead of assuming that his 11-point mission for the development of Karnataka would be accepted without a debate, had displayed that he was a true democrat.

Mr Patil thanked former Chief Minister N Dharam Singh for getting Rs 75 crore sanctioned from the Planning Commission for the implementation of the President's mission.
