Islamic militants gun down six people in Thailand
Bangkok, Mar 16: Islamic insurgents gunned down six people in Thailand's southern Pattani province this morning (Mar 16, 2006).
Four motorcycle-borne militants fired with assault rifles at a local administration office in the troubled province, killing five people on the spot. Another person succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
Among those killed was the assistant local administrative office chief.
Yesterday, an ice-cream vendor was gunned down in front of his eight-year-old son in Yala province.
More than 1,100 people have been killed in insurgence related violence which broke out in Thailand's Muslim-majority southern border provinces of Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani about two years back.
