New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) With the last date of filing income tax a few days away, income tax employees across the country have gone on strike today in protest against non-fulfilment of their demands on recruitment rules, promotion and filling of vacancies.

''We have decided to go on a one-day strike as the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBT) has failed to respond to our 13-point charter of demands that we have been pressing for a long time,'' Delhi Income Tax Employees Federation General Secretary Baswanand said here.

''We have been forced to go on strike in the month of March,'' he said and added that if the demands were not fulfilled the employees would go on an indefinite strike.

More than fifty six thousand offices and group CBT employees have gone on strike in the country.
