Ice plant at Malpe to be inaugurated on Mar 18
Udupi, Karnataka, Mar 16 (UNI) The ice plant, erected at the Malpe fisheries harbour, near here, at a cost of Rs 62 lakh, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on March 18.
Briefing newspersons here today, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts Cooperative Fish Marketing Federation President Y Gangadhara Suvarna said the plant was set up by the Federation using a grant of Rs 50 lakh sanctioned by the Union Agriculture Ministry and meeting the rest on its own. The plant, with a capacity of 30 tonnes, would provide required ice to fishing boats and fisherwomen at a concessional rate.
The Federation planned to construct a similar plant at the Mangalore fisheries port at a cost of Rs 80 lakh soon, he said.
