Mumbai, Mar 16 (UNI) Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today told the Legislative Assembly that directives have been issued to the concerned authorities to apply the same norms of compensation to those affected in the recent unseasonal rains as is done for heavy rains and floods.

He was replying to concerns of members from Marathwada and North Maharashtra after the Question Hour.

They urged the government to take steps to provide adequate compensation where there was heavy loss of lives, property, cattle and crop.

The members said farmers have suffered damages to standing crops due to the recent unseasonal rains.

Mr Deshmukh said local MLAs should ensure that the 'panchnamas' are done in a proper manner.

Meanwhile, Speaker Babasaheb Kupekar reserved his ruling on an adjournment notice on recent police firing on farmers in three different places in the State --Maan, Amravati and Beed-- which resulted in two deaths.
