Datta stresses on peace in Nagaland

Kohima, Mar 16: Nagaland Governor Shyamal Datta today (Mar 16, 2006) said his Government will spare no effort to help bring about an honourbale settlement of the Naga issue.

In his address on the opening day of the 10th session of the 10th Nagaland Legislative Assembly here, Mr Datta said his Government also committed to ensure that no hindrances were created in resolving the issue and appreciated the contributions of various NGOs, Churches and Civil Societies to the cause of peace.

He said the memories of violence, bloodshed and hardships are still fresh in the minds of the people. It is the resilience and the tenacity of the Naga people that has seen this beautiful land survive the turmoil and grow and progress.

He also appreciated the speaker of Nagaland legislative Assembly for taking initiative by convening the joint meeting of all state legislators on November 25 last year and the resolution for the formation of the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) for peace, cutting across party lines.

On the law and order, the Governor said his Government was determined to see that the people are assured on security of their lives and properties and laid great emphasis on the maintenance of law and order so that the people can go about their vocation peacefully without any sense of threat.

He also appreciated jawans of the 9th battalion of Indian Reserved Battalion (IRB) for their gallant display of courage, determination and fortitude in maintaining peace in Chattisgarh, a pride for the Naga people.
