Data expresses cocern on ecological preservation

Kohima, Mar 16 (UNI) Nagaland Governor Shyamal Datta today said the preservation of ecology and environment in the state is a matter of great concern to his government.

Addressing the week-long budget session of the 10th Nagaland Legislative Assembly here this morning, Mr Datta said the natural and manmade disasters have struck the state like the fire in the panoramic Dzukou valley and sporadic cases in several districts of the state.

The most recent being ones in Mukuli in Mokokchung and Yimrup in Tuensang districts where there were also loss of lives and massive destruction of properties, he said.

These also remind the need for creating awareness and education about precautions to be taken against such hazards and also the need for adoption of alternative methods of cultivation.

He said the unabated destruction of forest cover due to Jhumming and logging operations has made his government determined to meet the threat enlarging the fort cover.

During the last three years, the government through the forest development agencies have planted 17.848 hectares and 335 villages were involved in the Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC).
