CPT sets new record in iron ore handling

Chennai, Mar 16 (UNI) Chennai Port Trust has set a new record in handling of iron ore lumps at the Jawahar dock on March 13.

A record handling of 40,300 tonnes of iron ore lumps was loaded on the vessel '' M V Inebolu'' on March 13 to China at Jawahar dock II by manual operation. The total manifested of 50,800 tonnes was completed within 48 hours, an official release here said.

This surpassed the previous record of 38,900 tonnes loaded into the vessel 'M V Sea Venus' on August two, 2005, the release said.

The iron ore lumps were dust free and the norms were followed to check the pollution while handling the cargo. M/s Gimpex and M/s B L Transport were the exporter and stevedore for the consignment respectively, the release said.
