Cold conditions continue in HP

Shimla, Mar 16 (UNI) The tribal valleys and high-altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh are reeling under intense cold wave conditions after receiving another spell of fresh snow, while the middle and lower hills were greeted by bright sunshine during the last 24 hrs.

The high altitude areas of Kinnuar, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti and Chamba districts experienced another spell of fresh snowfall, while the lower areas of the districts were lashed by light rain, bringing down the minimum and maximum temperatures in the state.

Rekong Peo, the district headquarter of Kinnuar, was lashed by rain last night, while Kalpa in the district was under five cms of snow. Sources said the higher reaches had received another spell of heavy snowfall during the last 24 hrs.

The higher reaches of Lahaul-Spiti district had also received snow last night and Keylong, the district headquarter, was under one foot of snow due to snow in the last few days and sources said Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses had suspended their operations to the district.

An official spokesman said only light vehicles were plying on the main and link roads of the district.

Patsio in Lahaul-Spiti had received five cms snow, while Dhundi and Solang Nullah in Kullu district were under 20 cm and 48 cms snow.

Yesterday, the famous tourist resorts of Kufri, Narkanda and Mashobra in Shimla district had received three, four and two inches of snow respectively, while Manali in Kullu district had received four inches of snow.
