City court sentences a man to life for attempt to murder
New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) A city court has sentenced a 32 year-old-man to life imprisonment for attempting to murder his own sister in Kalkaji in South Delhi six years ago.
After hearing the arguments of both the prosecution and the defence last Thursday, Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Vinod Kumar, held Manoj Gupta guilty of attempting to murder Usha and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The court further slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on Manoj.
Usha, 28, married Pawan Gupta on June 7, 2000, against the wishes of her family. On June 26, Pawan, locked the house from inside and attempted to kill Usha with a sharp-edged knife and fled from the spot. After Usha was seriously injured, one of his brother, Hariom along with Pawan took her to hospital, according to the prosecution.
Manoj was convicted under sections 307 (Attempt to murder) and 120-B (Criminal Conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
