BJD, BJP candidates file nomination

Bhubaneswar, Mar 16: Sitting Parliament Members Baijant Panda and Rudra Narayan Pani and tribal leader Bhagirathi Majhi today filed their nominations for the Rajya Sabha seat from Orissa.

While Mr Pani and Mr Majhi filed the nomination as BJP candidates Mr Panda filed the papers as BJD candidate.

The ruling BJD renominated Mr Baijant Panda and the BJP renominated Rudra Narayan Pani. Mr Majhi filed his nomination as the second candidate from BJP.

All the three candidates filed two sets of nomination papers before the Orissa Assembly Secretary, the Returning Officer for the election in presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, BJP state President Juel Oram, BJP legislature party leader B.B.Harichandan and other council of Ministers of the Naveen Patnaik government.

The major Opposition Congress is yet to finalise its candidate for the election. The party is expected to announce the name of the candidate by this evening so that the nomination would be filed tomorrow.

Elections would be held on March 28 for four seats from Orissa.
