AP House adjourned amid pandemonium

Hyderabad, Mar 16 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned for the day without transacting business amid pandemonium with Opposition members demanding action against police involved in the lathicharge against Holi revellers in the Osmania University campus.

Trouble began soon after the House met for the day when the TRS, AIMIM and Janata Party members stalled the proceedings demanding immediate discussion on the adjournments motions tabled by them on the issue.

Despite Speaker K R Suresh Reddy's repeated request that the issue could be sorted during the tea break in his chambers, the members did not allow the House to take up regular business.

Meanwhile, the TDP members joined the TRS MLAs and rushed into the well of the House forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House. Mr Reddy later held a meeting of the floor leaders.

When the House reassembled, Home Minster K Janaa Reddy assured the members he would make a statement on the incident tomorrow.

Not satisifed with this, the Opposition leaders sought the immediate suspension of police officers and wanted the statement to be made in the House today itself.

TRS members shouted slogans condemning the police excess, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House for the second time. When the House reassembled againg, the TRS members continued to create ruckus.

Condemning the attack on intellectuals, CPI(M) member M A Gafoor and Marketing Minsiter Botsha Satyanarayana said it was improper to make parochial statements.

TRS Floor Leader G Vijaya Rama Rao said it was unfortunate that the incident should take place in the capital and that too in a university campus. He said this was the result of the GO 72 which, he said, the Government had issued to undermine GO 610 and the Presidential order issued to protect the rights of the Telangana people.
