Angry mob set ablaze police van after an accident

Jamshedpur, Mar 16 (UNI) Infuriated over the death of a youth in a road accident, angry mob set ablaze a police jeep of Mango police station at Pardih area here last night.

Police said the mishap occurred when the youth, one Bharat Kumar (22), fell from the police van when the vehicle hit a truck from behind. He was run over by another truck and died on the spot.

The incident triggered a widespread protest among the people and they set on fire the police van. The mob also staged road blockade till late last night. They did not allow the police to remove the dead body, demanding action against the driver of the jeep, the officier-in-charge and other police personnel, who were on duty.

The body was removed later and was sent for post mortem today.

Meanwhile, the eyewitnesses, accused the driver for the accident.

East Singhbhum police superintendent Ashish Batra has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
